Drinkable, Canadian AND Vegan?
My husband (DM) and I recently did a short trip to Vancouver and while checking out Granville Island (which we Loved) I popped into a wine store and picked up a bottle of 2022 Malbec from Painted Rock Winery.
I'll admit, I was taken aback a little when I checked out. Not that I'm opposed to spending $100 on a bottle of wine - I just hadn't expected it.
One of the best $100 I've spent.
I live in Ontario and over the past 8 or 10 months, I've done my best to buy Canadian. I'm not a huge drinker but I do enjoy wine (only wine) on the weekends. I've been on the hunt for good, Canadian wines that I can buy in the LCBO every since and it is not an easy task.
In fact the BC wine section in the small LCBO near me is non-existent - the larger stores are not much better. I'll be doing a trip to the adult candy store known as the Summerhill LCBO to check out what's on offer.
This past weekend I tried a bottle of Magnetic Hill Terroir Generator Marquette from Moncton New Brunswick and while I was a little afraid it might taste like potatoes, it was decent, a little more acidic than I prefer but quite drinkable.
I will continue my hunt for drinkable Canadian wine along with Canadian vegan items like groceries, restaurants, skin care....in my quest to support our home and native land and my preference to consume zero animal products.
**My research shows that wine from Painted Rock Winery (2010 and onward) is vegan, the wine from Magnetic Hill Winery is not specified so more research is required.
Coming up next time, Good Rebel Vegan haul.
